Kendallville hosting meeting about $2.35 million solar project

From an article in The News Sun.

Kendallville City officials will host a public meeting on Thursday, January 28, 2021, at 6 p.m. at the Community Learning center to discuss a proposal for a 1.55 MW solar field at the former McCray Refrigerator factory off Wayne Street. The city proposes to fund the estimated $2.35 million project with short-term bonds. The city hopes to complete the project by July 2022 in order to take advantage of a state “net metering” program through 2032. The power generated by the solar field would help offset electricity costs at the city’s wastewater plant, reducing the bill by up to 82% per year and generating approximately $6.7 million in savings over the first 30 years of use.
